First ground picture of Mars.  This JUST happened minutes ago.

I really really wish this would stop going around, to my dismay I keep seeing it over and over again across my dashboard[s]. Poor Mars and our mortal misinformation. It’s even from the same source as this post I reblogged from Ken clearly disproving this image’s legitimacy as Curiosity’s, aka NASA’s newest Mars rover’s, “first image”. It’s clearly a doctored version of the actual original from Mars Exploration Rover back in 2005.

It’s really disheartening to see literally hundreds of people that so easily think this is Curiosity’s first image. THIS is one of the two of Curiosity’s first image, and THIS is Curiosity’s first coloured image of the martian world, captured in 2012.
